Argh scratched the screen

What can I do? Took it to camera shop and the reckon £150 but it may be cheaper because it's not cracked it's just the plastic. I can pay £12.50 for a quote but I object to paying so they can give me an estimate. It's only a d3000 so it's not worth paying that to get it repaired.
 
Not totally sure what you are saying here, is it that you have scratched one of your lenses or something on the camera itself ?
If it's a lens, does it show on pictures as often these marks don't ?
Might just be worth looking for a second hand lens of the same type unless it's insured
 
i'm confused, have you scratched the viewfinder and your lens? if so which lens is it?

Its the screen, I know it doesnt affect the photos, but I like to be able to look at them and it is really badly scratched. Plus it looks awful and at some point soon ish I want to be able to trade it up.

My baby sitter had it around her neck for me because I was carrying my little one and whatever she was wearing has put 7/8 really deep gouges into the plastic.

Clearly I wont say anything as she was doing me a favour, but £150 to repair it - and even £12.50 for a quote (I didnt know you had to pay to get a repair quote) to be told yes, it is £150, isnt economical given the actual value of the camera.
 
Sounds like he scratched the LCD since it is plastic. Not worth repairing imho.
 
Could try a screen protector, as I have read that the adhesive from the protector will hide the scratches once applied.
 
its the LCD screen yes - I am kicking myself as I have a screen protector, I had just never gotten around to fitting it

Depending on how deep the scratch is you can polish it out pretty easily, however a new screen for the lcd (it's just a plastic cover you have scratched not the lcd itself) is only about £15 and takes 2 minutes to replace.

Whats the best way to polish them out, they are quite deep mind you, more goufes than scratches?? I wouldnt have a clue how to go about replacing the screen if they dont polish out. But I would like to repair it really. Thanks

It depends how confident you are.....

Starting with 600 or 800 grit wet and dry paper (the stuff for rubbing down cars) you polish the screen until you get a matt finish and then work down through finer grades to 2000 grit and then t-cut and toothpaste to finish off
 
Usually, there is a plastic outer screen covering the LCD underneath, these can be replaced, but it does mean prying off the scratched one, it could be risky to the LCD underneath if you slip.

thanks everyone, I have polished and polished it, and gotten over the shock of getting my beloved camera back covered in gouges, for now I have bought a tube of displex, just waiting for it to arrive - I hadnt heard of it before.

Im not confident enough to take of the plastic cover myself, but if the displex doesnt work, then I will shop around and see if I know anyone who would do it for me for a fee.

Was not impressed by camera shop and will therefore be taking my business elsewhere, as I am sure they could have been a tad more helpful than they were.
 
Ive tried a few of these scratch removers and none of them worked on anything that you could see. I would go for the new cover, you will never polish gouges out.
