ok so i love my sony a330 my first dslr and its been good to learn with but as i've been learning more anr more i have been wanting more and more equipment and this has proven sooo difficult because it is a sony!!!

why is it you can get everything for canon but you cant even get a cable release from jessops for a sony and the one they do is not compatible with the a330 so iv spent so much money on lenses, the camera and other accessories e.g flashgun .. bla bla bla and i cant get a battery pack add on thing cant get a cable release/ trigger what ever you call em cant get one of those lil spirit level things (pardon the lack of scientific word) but what do i do carry on coping with out the things i want or try sell everything to get a canon so i can get the things i want but it means all my stuff would sell for less and i would have to buy brand new canon stuff which would probs make me unable to afford the equivalent of what i have now but canon version!!!

sorry rant over but no sales person ever said oh dont buy a sony especially this one cos u cant get anything for it!
 
Jessops will only recommend the "latest" gear as its best and what all the pro's use. Oh and at least you didn't encounter there returns department.


Mean while on planet earth have you had a look on ebay for the bits your after.
 
Nikon and Canon dominate the market to the extent that most retailers will predominately stock accessories for these 2, it's more a matter of stock control (and what sells the most and the quickest) than a sleight against Sony.
 
A Sony IR remote? The a330 can take that, I'm sure
An after market battery grip? Like the Ownuser.
Minolta/Sony to standard hot shoe adapter (£4) - add spirit level to that.
 
You should be able to get everything you need for the Sony, but not necessarily everything you want.
The biggest issue I've had thought is reliable wireless flash triggers.

For lenses there is still a selection of some fantastic old Minolta glass (I use 50 1.7 & 28 2.8, sold the Beercan).

When you go entry level you will get a lack of some features, you say Canon have everything, but I don't recall a Canon grip for the entry level 1100D
 
The mistake you made was going to Jessops and expecting them to have everything you want, not buying in to Sony.

Try the interweb for your shopping, it really is quite good, especially for the little things that you couldn't really expect a shop to stock.
 
Surely any photographic retailer that deals with Sony should be able to order accessories in for you, if you can put up with waiting a week or two?
 
I bought my Sony cable release from jessops for 50p. Spirit level? £10 off eBay.

Don't blame Sony for jessops' lack of stock.
 
cheers and sorry just dont like dealing with internet buys prefer to speak to someone and see the product before i buy will check out some online companies.

really didnt want to sound against sony as i do like sony just was really frustrating when unable to find things and internet takes a while and you cant guarantee what your getting :)

can totally agree with this, much prefer to buy from a shop, but sometimes needs must.

Don't forget, you can order on line and collect in store from Jessops - they may well stock in, but not necessarily in store, have a look on the Internet and see what you need, you can then look on the various / specific shops website.
 
Look on amazon. There are remote releases that work with sony on there. The online jessops store is better but I also noticed it lacked the accessories that are available. I bought a cable one and a remote one from amazon. Stupidly cheap and they both work well with both sony cameras I have. If it is no good then you can send it back for a full refund anyway.

I have a spirit level hot shoe thingy. It's useless. You can't see it while using the viewfinder and if you use the screen then you can switch on the grid lines so it isn't needed anyway. And if you put your camera away in the bag with it still on it pings off.

Thanks for letting me know that. Jessops wanted me to spend £600! on a 1100D,because it included a stabiliser lens! So far the best service I have had is with LCE.

Where they are useful is for landscape photography using a tripod - get the camera level left/right, then you can compose using the viewfinder / zoom knowing the horizon will be level.

ditto!!, I use it when using my tripod, getting the camera level before I even look through the view finder.
