Apologies for the dumb sounding thread.

I've just bought a new camera bag (A Naneu c9) Am I ok putting my camera in it LENS down? On the picture it shows the camera body at the top viewing the lcd screen, but I'm a bit worried about the weight of the camera on the lens? Or should I always be taking the lens off? (Which is a bit of a pain)
Am I being a bit thick? My last case had a 'support' kind of system but this one hasn't so I thought i'd ask Thank you! :)

Shouldn't be a problem to be honest (just make sure you remember the lens cap!).

If you wanted to add a little more support, buy some foam and make a couple of supports for either side of the lens that the body can 'rest' on when you put it in the bag.

what they said never had any probs, and the C9 is a toploader anyway isnt it? so designed for that very use.

EDIT..
looks a pretty nice and usable bag..

no problem so far doing that (touch wood). i've always put things like big lens cloths at the bottom to give a bit more protection to the front of the lens as alot of bags i've seen don't give that much protection on the base

The answer depends on the lens. There is only one lens I know of that needs particular care to avoid pressure on the front of it. That's not to say that there are no others. The danger lens I know of is the Canon 50/1.4. If the lens is stored when focused at anything other than infinity then pressure on the front of the lens can strip the AF mechanism. The solution is to only ever store the lens when focused to infinity, fit the Canon lens hood or an exact replica (not something that screws to the filter threads) and leave it in the shooting position so that it extends in front of the lens, or be very careful/lucky.

Apart from that, camera bodies don't weigh much in the great scheme of things and many lenses weigh far more than the bodies they are attached to. Just take a look at this beast. Which would you rather have on top of the other - body or lens?

BIG LENS (not my photo)

Personally, with the exception of the 50/1.5, I don't care which way round I store stuff in my bags. It's easily robust enough not to matter.

There is one "gotcha" though. If you have a lens, especially a long lens, attached to a body while in transit and it takes an awkward drop or hard knock then you can inflict a lot of force on the lens mount, which might cause damage to one or other. It's not something I personally concern myself with, but I thought I'd mention it. Some people do separate lens and body for transit.

Thank you very juch for the helpful, speedy replies. I shall use my case with some added foam as suggested ;)
