Article - when is sharing stealing

Interesting, thanks for stealing lol

Trying to be clever or something else? Not sure how linking to a story is stealing.
Interesting article and highlights the dangers of some sites rights over images/articles posted on them.

Interesting story :) Shot on an iPhone through an aeroplane window LOL

It can only be 'stealing' if the photo has value. That seems to be a constant in these things, money, and 99.9% of the stuff on Facebook etc just has no value.

Furthermore, with copyright, you don't actually take anything except a copy, the author hasn't 'lost' anything in that sense, even if the 'thief' then goes on to make money out of the copy. So it becomes the loss of a potential gain, if that makes sense!

I don't see any solution to this problem. You can make as much fuss as you like, but it won't stop. You just have to secure whatever assets or potential assets rights at the start, which probably means not putting it in the public domain in the first place, and controlling the release very carefully.

It's a bit like going on holiday, leaving all the lights on and the doors open, and then being surprised that burglers and squatters come around. Also, even if you lock everything and set the alarm, you can still get turned over.

Stealing is stealing whether something has value or not. If you were giving puppies away and someone took them without your permission its stealing.

As for not putting it in the public domain, if she hadn't then it would not have received the publicity it did, its a never ending problem :(

You are correct that there is no easy answer.

We're not talking about puppies!

We're talking about someone taking a copy - a virtual puppy clone - the owner has lost nothing. It's what is then done with the copy, which potentially deprives the owner of gaining something.

It's a potential loss. Or maybe not. With most copyright theft these days the owner has no idea it's happened, and doesn't care if they do. Other times, the owner cares very much, even if the 'thief' has no idea they've done anything wrong!

Tricky
