Asian wedding question.

Hi people.

I have zero experience with Asian wedding photography but my brothers business partner (not the most experienced photographer by any means) has taken studio style photography to events and although I can't imagine doing it that way, he insists its "how its done".

So I thought I'd say what happened and get some feedback from people that are experienced in Asian weddings.

So its pretty simple in explanation, by studio I mean he dictated the whole evening to the bride and groom...where to walk, how to stand, where to look etc.

He was like this on a 16th birthday party that I was videoing and I fear he just doesn't know how to be a background photographer rather than what he thinks; "it's how it should be done".

The host had to tell him to stop hounding the bride and groom because he was literally around them all the time...

Any thoughts?

If you are doing posed couples shots thats fine, you can give them direction etc but for otherwise the tog shouldnt really be interfering with the couple or keeping it to a very minimum.

Asian wedding is no different in that sense. You don't interfere during the wedding itself; there are loads of rituals, and you can't interrupt the proceedings. However, for portraits, of course you'll be directing them, but you ask the couple to make time for those shots during the day, and shoot those when you can, rather than follow them around all day long. That's just wrong.
