What aspect ratio should we be using? 4:3 or 3:2

Use whatever floats your boat (or whatever your camera does).

If you don't like it crop after.

Depends what camera you have, most dslr are 3:2 But when you get to printing the paper sizes are not always 3:2 or 4:3 ^^ so does it matter what ratio camera shoots at if in the end you might have to change it anyway to fit the paper :)

We should be using 1.414 : 1. But there's no chance while the 'Merkins refuse to comply.

I like 4:3 but printouts then need cropping to fit standard size so I am 'forced' to use 3:2 like normal when using my GF1, Andrew.

Whatever you want.. but I personally find it easier to stick with a few standard-to-me ratios (3:2, 4:3, 16:9, 255:100, 2.125:3.5). I get around printing non-standard ratios by having appropriate export presets in Lightroom that add the required border in black, white or mid-grey.

I wouldn't change a photo to fit the paper. Paper can be cut as easily as a photo can be cropped.
