Hey there,

i'm looking to getting a notebook to support my photography when away on holiday/bike weekends etc.

i want one that is competent enough for my good lady to surf the net in her evening position (sofa in front of tv)

I've seen the blurb regarding this model:

Asus Eee PC 1000HE.

Has anyone got one/reviewed one etc.
Are they up to the job?
Will the batteries last "up to 9 hours" as stated?

If its any help I have the Eee PC 904HA model with 160Gb drive, 2 GB RAM and Windows XP. It's a cracking little machine, built-in speakers, web cam etc.

My technophobe wife hijacks it most evenings to surf the web and loves it.

I've had four and a half hours out of the battery and I took it on a 3-week trip to the Far East to store my images, worked perfectly. It doesn't have a cd/dvd drive but I transfer files using a wireless home network without any problems.

All things considered it was a great buy and I'm very happy with it. Hope that helps.

it most certainly does, thanks :)

I've got a Samsung N110 and I love it. The battery is rated at 9hours as well I think, but i only get 8 hours or so. That's still pretty darn good!

As said, I love it, it's brilliant for browsing, but the main reason I got it was to take on holiday to transfer photographs to.

If the primary feature you want is portability, get a netbook like the Eee or NC-10. If the primary feature you want is something for image editing that is also portable, then get a 'proper' laptop.

I got an NC-10 for my holiday and it works great as a portable digital darkroom :) The Atom processors aren't really designed for serious number crunching in editing so getting into anything more than some sliders in Lightroom can get a bit tedious.

This model did quite well in the Computer Shopper comparison test (aug 09), but they said

"if you can stretch your budget a further £42, Samsung's N120 has a dramatically better battery life and more responsive keyboard"

However, the Asus has a slightly faster processor than most netbooks (including the Samsung).

thanks everyone.

She got the Asus in the end, it's pretty good at doing what it's supposed to, haven't used it on the road yet though...
