Would be interested how many of you have noticed the red line coming from the centre focusing point in the viewfinder when half pressing the shutter button as opposed to those who have none?

Just bought a D90 2nd hand and have noticed this red line. Various answers on the net but i know you lot are the best people to ask.

It is a bit annoying to see this in the viewfinder but would like to know if this is the norm with all you D90 owners. Thanks

When you look through the viewfinder, half press to focuss, points light up red but also there is a red line that comes from the centre focussing poing straight down vertically. Try it and let me know. Ta
 
I had one on mine, never bothered me. Come to think of it, my D700 might too, but I dont even notice it now.
 
It's normal - as multiple people have said in the other thread you brought it up in.

Although I thought it was black rather than red....

I've also just tested slapheads theory and stuck the centre focus point on wide, and hey presto, the line moves with the left segment, and also a line across the top linking the two segments also becomes visible. You can also see identical lines connecting to other focus points when you select them manually. It's clearly conductor track or light guide (more likely the former).

Anyone worrying about this is nuts IMHO.

Both my D50 and D90 show the lines. The manuals (D90 manual page 9) mention that you might see the lines and that it is normal.

Funny enough, I checked my D40 on the offchance and it shows no such anomaly, but is clearly a different type of illumination as each focus point is made up of many small dots rather than a solid block a-la the D90.
 
Phew, thought it was a fault on my D90!!!!!!!!

Just thought i would ask you clever guys on here to check yours.
