hi looks like i need a new power supply for my pc
the one inside the tower is a dell H305P-00 does any body know an equivalent part that i can use
pc's are not my thing

Search that part on eBay, I don't know if it is a standard psu :)
 
Dont skimp on power supplies ever! :) Branded is best.

There is a guy selling one here, a little bit more than the ebay one, but a MUCH MUCH better psu!
 
It probably is a standard power supply. It may have screws in slightly different places but with luck as least 2 will line up and that will be enough to hold it. Worst case might be that you will have to cut a bit of metal away on the case if the power socket is in a different place but the one you linked to should do it. Given the price it is worth a try.

that is a modular power supply and not only overkill it may be confusing for a non computer literate person. For a PC that is never going to get upgrades I'd suggest staying with something more basic.

it is over kill, but is a good brand that isnt going to blow up, for £25 + P&P its a good option. Modular isnt confusing, there is pictures on the box, i would say its easier than other supplies which will come in a blank box with few instructions if at all.

plus there will be less wires to get caught in fans etc. And im sure the seller would give telephone help if the op needed it...

worth noting that cheap PSU very rarely output the stated power which is why theyre quite common to fail because people load them up beyond what they can produce. that said a £15 "500w" PSU should be okay as a direct replacement for a 300w :D
 
if it is the power supply that is failing then i dont mind buying a better one later
the pc is knocking on a bit now p4 4 gig ram and 250gb hd and running xp
when i get some spare cash i will look for something better
 
well i have fitted the new psu and it booted first time at the press of the button
see how it goes over the next few days

Well my bigger computer has a bog standard 350W PSU which feeds 5 HDD, 1Raid card, 2 DVD burners and 1 Blu-Ray burner, a cheapo Video card, 4 GB RAM, a couple of extra cooling fans and a broadband dongle.

After recently running it for about 4-5 days continuously while it rendered a lot of DVD boxsets into X-Vids I gave it a couple of hours break but when I turned it back on it was making a really loud noise.

I traced it to the fan in the PSU so simply took the little sticker off the fan and poured a couple of drops of oil into it and it has worked perfectly ever since.

It's back to running perfectly exactly as it has for the past 6 years.

All on a 350W PSU.
