I would question whether moonlight is actually light pollution though........
Definitely, unless all pollution is man-made, but I don't think that is the case, having lived next to volcanoes. You could ask "if a tree falls in forest with no one around - if that noise pollution?"

I believe the key to capturing the full spectrum of Northern Lights is to be in a no light pollution zone with a new moon. Oh and having a top DSLR! Aurora photo guide LINK.
Apparently, the best time to go is for the Spring Equinox. I know it is a new moon, but it is the 'best' new moon. Obviously, you can go on exactly the right day/night and there is cloud coverage which will stop any kind of light appearing
