Morning all, I wonder if one of you kind souls can help me please, Im missing the point somewhere and I cant work out where Im going wrong?

I have followed the instructions to the letter in my d300s book,

In the main menu I have the camera set to #e bracketing/flash, #e5 auto bracketing set to AE, #e6 auto braketing (mode M) is set to flash/speed and #e7 bracketing order is set to under>MTR>over

I hold down the fn (function button) down and rotate the sub-command wheel and set the camera to take 3 exposures at 1 stop under, 1 stop metered and 1 stop over and rotate the release Mode dail to Continuous shooting mode, and set the camera to shutter priority, I make sure Im shooting in raw mode, I then focus and shoot.

This is where Im getting confused, the camera takes the three shots but it takes them all at the same shutter speed??, and does not stop and change to different exposures, I cant work out what Im doing wrong? can anyone help me please or point me in the direction of a tutorial on it. :bonk:

Thanks in advance for any help and advice.

As a newbie and a Canon user I don't think I can be much help, but the first time I tried bracketing I kept using the wrong menu and ended up with 3 identical shots as you describe, turns out I was using WB bracketing.

Just a thought from a newb

The camera won't stop between shots.
heres what I use.
Auto bracketing set needs to be ae only, bracketing order is n, mrt under over and the camera need to be in one of the auto modes for it to work (I use apeture priority so it ajusts the shutter, changing the apeture will alter depth of field and may make it more difficult to align images after)

I have not got a Nikon 300s but do you need Continuous mode for bracketing?
It may be confusing the camera, set up for bracketing but try it on single shot mode & hold the shutter release down.

Maybe a daft question, but have you checked the exif to make sure they are all actually taken at the same shutter speed and aperture? Do the shots show any visible difference on the camera LCD or on a screen? The camera doesn't need to to stop and change it, so it'll just sound the same as three continuous shots without bracketing.

Like Wayne I always use aperture priority to make sure that doesn't change.

No it doesn't have to be in continious mode, but you'll have to count the shots if your in single shot, in continious it'll do the full 3-5-7 whatever and stop, less chance of you "going over" into the next sequence that way.

on the Nikon, if the values are decimals (0.2 0.4)on the lcd you are set to exp bracketing, but if the values are whole numbers (2,4) you are set to wb bracket :)

Wayne I think you've cracked it, I am using shutter priority and its the aperture that controls the shutter speed  I've just been through some instructions and it says to use the A setting - DOH

Thanks all

yes can confirm that is sorted now, thanks guys, and I have taken the dial off continuous shooting as advised

Why would you take it off continuous, that doesn't make any sense? It'll be like the D200 and S5 Pro - if you set it to take 5 shots at 1EV, all you do is hold down the shutter button until it stops taking frames - it'll stop after the number of steps specified.

Surely you want to get it over with as quickly as possible?
