I keep seeing remarks on various threads mentioning about Nikons auto ISO function.
Does'nt my Canon 40D have this, or am i being a complete thicko???:cuckoo:

Dean:)

It does, but its poorly implemented.

To set the Auto ISO (on my 50D) just press the iso button and roll the ISO down past 100, it should read 'A'

Its useful but quite lacking in areas.

Cheers, i have actually used it a few times, so it was really a bit of a loaded question.
So why do people keep on about it as if Nikon have the monopoly on the function. The 40D is hardly the most expensive or top of range camera, yet people seem top think they have to change to a high end Nikon to get it.

Dean:)

My 30D never had it. My Nikon D700 does and its much nicer than Canon's implementation. You set the minimum shutter speed and the highest ISO to use. The camera does the rest as you change the aperture. Its really brilliant.

Word of warning, just like all other Auto functions it can hinder as well as help.

On the Nikon Auto ISO even kicks in on Manual mode (or at least it does on my D200s and it did on my D80).

I leave my D80 on CSM 07 for this very reason, then its only one button away from turning autoiso off.
