autofocus slightly blurred compared to manual

Hi,

I going to give it a good test tomorrow but I have a question

I have just got a new Sony 18-135 lens as my first upgrade lens. With my simple testing in my house I noticed I was able to get a sharper pic using manual over AF. I'm not expert but it was quite noticeable when zoomed in alittle when viewing a picture on the camera.

Is this normal? I'm guessing the light conditions can have an effect on the AF accuracy so I'm going to test again outside in daylight tomorrow

Try photographing a ruler at an angle, and see if the AF focus point is not quite where you think it is:

If your camera has AF Micro Adj I would advise you check to see if your lens is back or front focusing, I had to set all my Sony/Minolta lenses on my Sony A77.

could you also post some examples if previous suggestions don't work? is it a large amount out or just a minute amount?

TBH - it is not massively out....I just noticed that I was able to get better results using my manual focus than the AF.....but that is probably to be expected???

I wouldn't be happy getting sharper results using manual focus rather than AF.
