Automatic Number recognition

Hello.

I am starting to take an increasing number of photographs at sporting events and afterwards I have to spend hours and hours going through each photograph to produce a list of competitors by shot number.

There must be a software package that can automate this to some extent as pro-photographers seem to get their libraries up very quickly with the information added to the file to make it searcheable.

Anyone tell me whether this can be done more easily ?

Nope, they know the people i expect. If they are pros they will know their subjects / teams etc.

Not 500 entrants they won't - you're right for the main 'celebrities' but in a duathlon with 400 entrants, only half a dozen of whom are names they wouldn't know many at all.

Maybe they have some willing slaves in a basement somewhere who do the work for them manually but I estimate at the event I was at, they probably took a couple of thousand photo's and they were up in about 12 hours !
