Has anybody got a solution to AVG 9 using up all the CPU?

At start up avgrsx.exe and avgcsrvx.exe and csrcss.exe "eats" 100% of my CPU!!

I can't run anything unless I turn AVG off.

Have you tried MS Security Essentials or Avast Antivir both free versions. Sorry its not a direct solution for AVG9 issues.
 
I can recommend NOD32.
 
AVG is notorious for hugging memory.

I have to ask 'is anti-virus still required in this day and age'?

I've never had a any trojans etc for over two years now.

Is it trying to run a scan in the background?

I think I had this problem when I installed a new version that ignored my previous settings. They seem to think they are doing you a favour!

Have a look at the settings and turn off any kind of automatic system scan.

Aye, they are still on the go but the problem now is more about "false positives".

No it's not running a scan!

I've just looked on the AVG forum, it seems I'm not the only one with this problem.

No answers to it yet.
 
I had the same problem, my computer slowed down so much I had to restart every half hour.
I changed to Avast and have had no problems since.
 
I used to have problems on and off with AVG, swopped to Kaspersky (not free though) and much better - you have to run a file to remove AVG from the root file as when you uninstall it, it doesn't remove everything.

Have you tried a coplete uninstall and re-install ??
 
lol this is the reason i dumped norton and went to AVG. never had any issues with AVG (yet)

i'm running the free avg 9.0.733 on win7.

Without detection software, how do you know? ;)

Two of my colleagues who work with me in IT have the exact same approach. :cuckoo:

One started wondering why he had 5 fraudulant transactions from his bank account the other week and the other was greatful when I told him his email address was spamming everyone with advertising emails...

Unbelievably, neither of them are using AV still... :bang:

Look up the term Trojan Horse if you do not know it already.
 
I used to use AVG, until it started to give false postive's, switched to Avast, so much better (except for the update message)
 
AVG is a bit greedy on the CPU resource.

Call it intuition, but am I right in assuming your 'pooter is a few years old?
 
If you are prepared to spend a few quid on AV software I'd recommend looking at ESET NOD32.

It's one of the lightest packages out there for your systems resources and its never let me down yet on virus detection.
 
I was running AVG on my old machine, few days after I installed it, my hard drive just died (no warnings or anything)... Could've been a coincidence, of course, but I switched to avira antivir and seems a lot quicker anyway, so worked out OK in the long run, even though it cost me for a new HDD!
