I have the 10 stop, and would be interested to hear how you find the quality of the THREADING on either the 10 stop, or indeed other screw type filters. I found it almost impossible to attach my LEE wide angle adapter ring to, and also, I found it almost impossible to attach the filter to the lens. The threads just always feel tight and awkward.

I eventually bought a second LEE filter ring, and superglued the filter to it, so at least I have solved half the problem.

****es me off, is there a technique I am missing?

Gary.

Hi Gary,
Just tried my B/W 10stop filter on three different LEE 77mm. adapters,
no problem all screwed in smoothly.
I have one Hoya filer which has a slight tight spot, tried pencil lead on the thread which cured the problem. Obviously being very careful and only using very light pressure on the thread.
DO NOT USE OIL OR IT MAY BIND, but you already know that !!!
Never had a problem with any B/W filters though, I think they are brass
and most others are a type of alloy, still shouldn't cause problem unless the paint has worn away.

I've got a bunch of 77mm B+W filters, which I use on either 77mm Nikkor lenses or with a 67-77mm B+W step-up ring. I find that the best way to get the thread to "catch", is to hold the lens pointed directly skyward and just drop (not from any great height :D) the filter on top and just twiddle it very, very lightly until it engages.

The thread is quite tight and my main problem is getting them apart afterwards when I've used the circular polariser with the 67mm adapter and the rotating of the CPL has caused it to be come quite tightly screwed in :(. I followed some advice from here and put some Vaseline on it (well, I didn't have Vaseline, so I used lip balm instead :D), but that wasn't a roaring success and I ended up wiping it all off again (after accidentally putting a big, greasey fingerprint on the edge of one of my filters :bang:).

What thread size are your B+Ws, Gary, and where did you get them, out of interest ?
