I got fed up with having to manage thousands of digital photos, so have dusted down my ancient Spotmatic. BUT I find the 50mm lens too restrictive and am looking for a wide-angle to screw into the Spotmatic's M42 thread. I probably don't need anything longer than 28mm and may have to settle for an adaptor allowing me to clip in a "foreign" lens to screw in. It's probably my lack of knowledge but it never seems clear what the terminal mount is e.g. does the Sony/Minolta M42 adaptor accept Sony / Minolta lenses to screw into the Pentax, or is it the other way round? Clarification very welcome as would be any suggestions about what to shop for on a budget of less than £60. Lens offers also welcome.

Most forums I go on you can view the classifieds as soon as you join up, but require 100 posts and 30days membership to actually post items in there. I couldn;t remember how this worked.
 
The M42-Sony only allows you to mount M42 lenses on Sony/Minolta cameras as Minolta/Sony AF lenses are electronically controlled and as so will not work on other cameras.

There are no comercially easily available adapters to allow you to mount other lenses on M42 as its so old and also the flange length of the mount is shorter than most other newer mounts so an adapter would lose infinity focus unless it has a corrective lens element which would degrade quality.

There are plenty of nice M42 wide angle lenses around, on ebay just type in 'M42 28mm lens' or something similar. If you want a nice 28mm, look for a Pentax Super Takumar 28mm F3.5 or SMC Takumar 28mm F3.5 (has the newer multicoating). You'll be looking at around £30 - £45 or so.
