Backdrop stands

I've got my ebay backdrop stands today. For 28 pound i can't really complain and i got what i paid for.

First the stands is no manfrotto quality (use manfrotto at work) but it does the job.

The problem i have is the stand advertise as 7.5ft x 10.00ft (H x W).

When full height extend the stands feel abit .......... When i drop it to a reasonable level it is not high enough for stand up portrait. This can easily be solve by using a stood and place the subject in sit position.

Was wondering are their any decent stands (not too expensive) that can recommend to me? I want it to reach the height of ceiling level (average house).

i've sorted now but gone thru the hard way. Never buy those too cheap kit anymore ...... you really get what you paid for. At least i can convert those stands to brollies stand with flash on. Easy enough to support the that.

I went and got 2x air cushion light stand from Calumet that can easily reach 10ft. They not manfrotto but feels sturdy enough for me and doesn't look too cheap either. Also have to buy a new cross bar because my existing crossbar can't fit into the studs on my light stand. Have to buy one like the manfrotto one so the bar can fit into the studs and then lock it.

It end up costing alot more but i'm more happy now and the cheap kit stands can act as backup and use as flash/brollies stand.

why is that?

many cheap alternatives be it a flash stand or a actual flash unit are good enough for the job at hand.

Do you make money out of photography to warrant paying 5x more for a backdrop?

if you do then fair play, get the best you can afford but if you dont, i personally think it is a waste of money, money that could be spent for traveling to a place to take a photo, buying other kit you do not have(lens filters?) etc etc

The kit i bought on ebay cost me around £28.99 exclude post and package. It was advertise as 7.5ft x 10ft backdrop stand kit. Altho the stands look and feel alright but it can only go up to around 6.5ft, anything higher then that it is very wobbly.

I not uses 2x Calumet own brand of light stand which is much more bigger and durable and can extend right up to 10ft and i also bought a new cross bar because of the one that comes with the ebay kit does not fit with standard light stand.

The ebay kit has now become spare flashgun/brollies stands which i can make use off and it is stable enough for that.

No i don't make money out of living for photography but i enjoy shooting.

The Calumet stands and cross bars cost me around £110 in total and it is much more better then the £28.99 ebay kit.
