Yes
I'm thrilled to bits using my new background system with a white paper roll and if money was no option I'd get loads of different colours. However money is a factor so I need to spend carefully at the moment and can't decide on what colour to buy next. I'm really trying to move away from the blown white background and love the effect of an unlit white roll, but sometimes it looks just like that, i.e. an unlit white background.

Been thinking about a nice rich red colour, or a very dark grey, or even possilby a rich blue or even a yellow but just can't decide. I am hoping that you good people on here could make a recomendation and post up an example of a shot?

Cheers,

Marcus

can you not light the white paper with other colours?

Hi Chris,

Yes deffo an option for the tighter crops but for full length shots on a background 3 metres wide with a train perhaps not practical to achieve.

Ta for posting and hope your keeping well.

solution, sell the rest of the people in the house, and the house to get a bigger house/massive studio then you just need a white cyc :p

Some of the brighter colours such as red, orange, etc can look really good with the right pose and model. I'm not sure how much use you would get before the novelty wore off though.

I would say get a grey that can be lit with gels to give other colours as Chris has suggested. If you are going to light the background and train anyway you can light it with gels on the flash.

Otherwise black for some low key shots.

Hmmm bearing in mind I'm not a pro of course...

The white/grey/black options are so common I'm not going to comment on them, the looks are known.

Colours - as you can't buy too many it has to be something that will suit most people. Yellow could conflict with a lot of paler skintones, so probably a bad idea. Red... fine for some people, although anybody with rosy cheeks I think it'd make it look too much (I'm working a bit off makeup principles here..!). Blue.. well, there is a reason that the whole blue sky background was so popular for a while (I'm suggesting plain blue, not cloudy though!) - so long as it was the right blue. Green being the other main option I think, again I think would suit most people? Or purple... purple I like but most people may not :D

Not sure how easy it would be, could you take a selection of pictures from different people, select the white BG and change the colours until you find one that suits everybody?
