Got to the point now where I haven't got the time nor the patience to keep backing up my second HD (my back-up, back-up drive) manually... just doing my head in.

I use Time Machine to back up my MBP but can it be used to back-up a drive from another drive and NOT a computer?

If not, can anyone point to a good automatic solution in the vein of Time Machine where it'll deal with it for you? They're Lacie Neil Poulton 1TB drives.

I'd be interested to know too.

I run Time Machine to back up my iMac onto a 1TB WD NAS drive. I can't find a utility that works backing up from an external drive to another (I have two 1TB external drives too) I can however use WD's utility (WD Backup anywhere) to also backup the iMac onto the second drive in real time. So effectively I have two utilities both doing the same, but to different drives. Did the Lacie drives not come with any similar utilities?

SyncToy (free from Microsoft) will sync files as you choose - Basically copies the data you want to or from drives of your choice.

Unfortunately SyncToy is Windows based. You need a Mac equivalent.

There are several available available, Not sure if there are many free ones. Look at Chronosync, and Integeo Back up

ok, here are a few alternatives and what I do.

My imac has a 640GB hard drive where everything is stored
I also have an Airport Extreme with 2 WD USB myBooks attached to it.

WD (Drive A) is my time machine backup . . . simple
WD (Drive B) backs up all my photos and lightroom catalog daily. I use a piece of software called Chronosync (about £30) and you can schedule it to backup anything . . .

I also have a portable USB drive. I use CarbonCopyCloner (free) to make a bootable image of my imac every few weeks and keep this offsite at my patrents.

For what you want to do i think you may be able to use CarbonCopyCloner or Superduper.

LaCie drives come with backup software. Problem is it only works with laCie drives not other makes. No problem for me as I use LaCie drives.

Will look on the lacie site to see if that'll do what I want
