Anyone got one on order? If so, do you have an expected delivery date?
 
I ordered one a week or so ago & my local supplier reckoned about 4 weeks , so should be before the end of May. We'll see though :rolleyes:
 
I ordered one and was given a delivery date for about 3-4 weeks after I placed the order. Unfortunately I had to cancel for other reasons.

Absolutely Ade. As soon as I get it i'll let you know. (I'm soooo busy atm, you will probably get to use it before I do! :LOL: )

Apart from a handful back in February there are still no Canon mounts available in the UK - none of the dealers have a clue as to when they will get any.
 
So - what's the chance of the prices rocketing on this lens? Also, I can't really get to the bottom of the reported focusing issues - i.e. lens error OR user error. Are we expecting the new stock when available to have improvements?

I do not think there is any chance of the price 'rocketing' on this lens - it is debatable whether it is even worth the £949 that is being charged in the UK (I am sure there would not be many takers in the US at $1520 which is approx what £949 equates to!!!).
As far as focusing issues goes it is mainly locking on to a flyer in AI servo mode when using the lens at the long end that is causing problems (worst when used on crop Cameras like the 7D and older) - this can be overcome to a certain extent by pump/bumping the AF (easiest when using back button focusing) although a slow 600mm lens like this is never going to be that good for fast(ish) flyers that's for sure. This Camera is a fairly good upgrade for anyone currently using a entry level long zoom lens like the Sigma 150-500 or earlier Tamron's but it is does not measure up to a half decent prime lens IMHO. I know a very good bird photographer who was dead keen on this lens but after he was loaned done for a day he went off the lens all together and decided to keep his 400/5.6. I have read of several bird shooters who all say that the lens is good for stationary targets, although you will have to stop down when using at the long end to avoid 'soft' images - they all say that as far as AF speed goes for flyers then the 400/5.6 + 1.4x tc is faster than the Tammy.
 
Is the new 'release' going to be the same lens though ... didn't Tamron acknowledge the problem with the first batch - the Press Release about being available in the UK in May (above link) spoke of a 'release', not something you would expect of just additional supplies of the same old?

Isn't the press release referring to the release of the Nikon mount version that's not been available thus far ?
 
There was talk a while ago about Tamron possibly holding back the Nikon release, because of an expected new body release?

That was a really helpful post. But I would suggest that your conclusions are not unexpected, or at least should not be unexpected by people who think it through. Realistically a slow 4x zoom will never be a match for a prime. Plus Canon's AF is better than anyone else's. Plus the 400/5.6 is totally optimised for fast AF and birds in flight. I can't help the suspicion that there is a lot of wishful thinking going on with regard to this lens.
 
shame there isnt a modern adaptall mount, wouldnt that be great.

and for all we know sigma might be putting something new together..
 
After much thought ive decided to stick with Canon and just ordered the 400mm f5.6. My first ever 'long' lens. I really am very excited!!!!

On the contrary Tamron has always categorically denied there is any problem with the lens. The 'release' you are referring to is the first release for Nikon mount ones.
 
Interesting, I am sure that here on TP someone sent theirs back and had a confirmation that Tamron had acknowledged the issue ... I'm probably thinking of this:-

I am not disputing this but would be absolutely gobsmacked if Tamron have admit there is a problem and they have had a big amount of returns.
I have heard of a lot of folk retuning the lens but in every case Tamron has denied there is any problem. To re-vamp the AF on a 600mm f6.3 lens would be a major problem I would have thought so for them to admit a problem would be akin to committing suicide!!¬
 
One of our Nikon forum members in the states picked his up yesterday in Nikon mount,naturally the light conditions have been crap but it looks promising
 
I realize this is an old thread but has anyone ordered one of these lenses recently? I ordered mine on July 30th , 2014 and still waiting for delivery. How long does it normally take Tamron to ship these? I would have hoped they had ramped up production to meet the demand.:(

Are you after Nikon, Canon.........mount? Who did you pre-order with?

WEX have had them in stock recently & saw a Nikon mount in my local Wilkinsons a couple of weeks ago.

They do seem to be coming through faster than they were, but obviously not fast enough yet.
 
This is for Canon Mount. I ordered through B&H. I'm not familiar with WEX. I'm a yank, ordering from the colonies;) Do you have a link to their website?
 
I emailed the importers, Intro2020, whilst I was on holiday in Cyprus a couple of weeks ago, and asked when the Nikon version would be available as no one had them in stock anywhere. I got an almost immediate reply from a Simon Biggs at Intro2020, explaining that due to unprecedented demand....yadda yadda etc. When I said, fair enough, I wasn't prepared to wait until about Christmas time (which is when some dealers had told me it would most likely be freely available after they had completed back orders), and that I would look elsewhere, he told me to hang on whilst he checked.

Well within an hour or so, he had hooked me up with a UK dealer, Priddy's in Devon who had an unsold one that had just come into stock at Intro and was about to be shipped to them. I did a deal (a few quid more than the £949 most were advertising it at), but the long and short of it was 2 days later, I had my shiny new Tamron 150-600 in Nikon fit in my hands, and its a beauty, and the thing is, I wasn't even on a pre-order list anywhere !

I'm sure they can't do this for everyone, but it goes to show what can be achieved by asking ?

Very resourceful! This isn't something I NEED, but it is something I really WANT. I certainly hope I don't have to wait until Christmas!!! Here in the US they are selling for $1069 which is about £659. I guess I'll just sit tight and hope that it comes in soon. Thanks for the input!
