The Nikon mount model will be first launched in the Japanese market, with overseas launches to follow in mid-May. The launch date of the Sony*4 mount model will be announced at a later date.
Any chance I could use it when we go out Carl?I ordered one a week or so ago & my local supplier reckoned about 4 weeks , so should be before the end of May. We'll see though![]()
Eight! Wow. Can I ask, why 8?
Any chance I could use it when we go out Carl?
I`d really like to try this lens before I buy.
)any idea on dates bud?I've got eight on order. No confirmed date yet.
cheers carlAbsolutely Ade. As soon as I get it i'll let you know. (I'm soooo busy atm, you will probably get to use it before I do!)
I do not think there is any chance of the price 'rocketing' on this lens - it is debatable whether it is even worth the £949 that is being charged in the UK (I am sure there would not be many takers in the US at $1520 which is approx what £949 equates to!!!).So - what's the chance of the prices rocketing on this lens? Also, I can't really get to the bottom of the reported focusing issues - i.e. lens error OR user error. Are we expecting the new stock when available to have improvements?
Is the new 'release' going to be the same lens though ... didn't Tamron acknowledge the problem with the first batch - the Press Release about being available in the UK in May (above link) spoke of a 'release', not something you would expect of just additional supplies of the same old?
That was a really helpful post. But I would suggest that your conclusions are not unexpected, or at least should not be unexpected by people who think it through. Realistically a slow 4x zoom will never be a match for a prime. Plus Canon's AF is better than anyone else's. Plus the 400/5.6 is totally optimised for fast AF and birds in flight. I can't help the suspicion that there is a lot of wishful thinking going on with regard to this lens.As far as focusing issues goes... it does not measure up to a half decent prime lens IMHO ... the 400/5.6 + 1.4x tc is faster than the Tammy.
Yes.Stewart, are you ordering nikon mounts?
On the contrary Tamron has always categorically denied there is any problem with the lens. The 'release' you are referring to is the first release for Nikon mount ones.Is the new 'release' going to be the same lens though ... didn't Tamron acknowledge the problem with the first batch - the Press Release about being available in the UK in May (above link) spoke of a 'release', not something you would expect of just additional supplies of the same old?
So far Tamron told me that they're dealing with big amount of returns. I can't imagine them not addressing the issue officially.
I'm in Birmingham now on the show and people are trying 150-600mm at the Tamron stand. I can hear lots of complaining about hunting AF...
I realize this is an old thread but has anyone ordered one of these lenses recently? I ordered mine on July 30th , 2014 and still waiting for delivery. How long does it normally take Tamron to ship these? I would have hoped they had ramped up production to meet the demand.![]()
