Yes
I know this topic has been discussed recently but it was more in general terms related to workflow rather than advice or suggestions about softwares.
So here I am wondering what you all have been using for backup purposes, any softwares, workflow included etc.

I am looking for a software that would automate my backup process. I have been reading about acronis and was about to download the trial version when suddenly ran into a forum that problems with the software was being discussed and aparently it hasn't still been resolved
I also looked into the Genie Timeline etc.

So knowing what you all use if any and what are the pros and cons you encounter and how you get around it would be greatly helpful.
Thanks

Amin

Acronis is actually excellent, but you might want to look at Allway Sync if you don't fancy it. I use both of them, the Acronis for system backups, and the Allway Sync for file/folder backups.... you really have endless options with both of them.

Here's the backup options for Allway Sync below, or you can do it manually.... pretty pointless with so many automated options to choose from.

To be honest, I used to use TrueImage then I used the Microsoft backup as the version of TrueImage I had didn't work in Windows 7 but it was just so slow, so in the end I went for Microsoft SyncToy.

It's a free download and I've got it configured to mirror a bunch of folders - first backup took aged, subsequent backups take just a few minutes. You can use the RoboCopy command to mirror folders too - this as an extensive command line interface so it could easily be entirely automated.

Thanks Derek and everyone above.
Derek, the option on the FileSync to backup when a file change is detected sounds fantastic to me. Not sure if True Image or the Microsoft SyncToy has something similar but I will have a look at both.

My setup is I download my RAW files using LR into an external HD linked to my laptop and this is where I work/process the files. Ideally I want to have a backup copy on a GoFlex Home storage device which is linked to my network. Sometimes I access it wirelessly which is good enough but when I back up the first time I will obviously hardwire it to the router. Got over 200 GB of files to throw in to the storage first time, so I am hoping that once that is setup and I start working on my laptop any file alteration will be detected and will update it on the GoFlex HD wirelessly depending on how I would be working on my laptop. Sometimes I do link it using Ethernet Over Power which seems a bit faster.
The main thing is the backup software updating it over the network, but I am assuming a good one will definitely do that.
I just tried Fbackup and it just wouldn't detect my GoFlex HD over the network, although aparently it says I can backup over the network.

Thanks for all your replies, going to test those ones above
