I have a MacBook, and use Timemachine for my backups. However, i have been considering using multiple drives and storing one away from home for added safety. Do any of you do this, and is it even possible to use multiple drives with Timemachine?!
Yes, you can use multiple drives with time machine, although I'm not sure if you can have two connected at the same time, obviously if you are rotating disks your offsite copy will be out of date as soon as it is disconnected.
The other solution is to use something like Mozy for offsite back ups.
I use Carbonite for my offsite backup, though I do tend to create new photos quicker than it is able to back them up.
There are mixed reviews of the service, but I am using it an insurance policy against, complete loss of my home office where my PC, NAS and back up NAS reside.
Time Machine will only back up to one drive. That's the one designated in it's preferences.
OK you can change that and get it to back up to a second drive, then switch back again. However as you are looking for a back up drive for your images ( Good man) then have a look for drives that come with backup software. LaCie I know do this with their Integeo Back up assistant.
If you are really paranoid then backup your backup.
