On going to Skomer with the TP lot I realised that I need a bigger bag for transportation purposes (not for day to day carrying). My main problem is the siggy 120-300 os as its a biggish beast and I would prefer to not have to carry it separately as I did to skomer. So I am thinging of the Lowepro Flipside 500 AW or the 400AW. Would the 500 AW be the better option? Does it fit in the carry on regs for airlines? It would contain the 120-300, 7D, battery grip, 17-55, 70-200 f4l, 50mm f1.8, 100mm macro, flash, batteries, cards, filters and hopefully hold on my tripod too.

So Lowepro Flipside 500 AW or any other suggestions. I would like it to count as carry on at least in size.
 
The 400AW is fairly close to the limit, pretty sure the 500 will be over.

Also bear in mind even half full the 400aw is over the weight limit for the majority of airlines. Try and get an airline with no carry on weight limit like BA. Also wear a body round your neck and get the OH to wear one rounds hers as they don't count that as luggage.
 
Also I do own the 400aw and last weekend it held:

Gripped 7d
Gripped 50d
Sigma 150-500
Canon 70-200 2.8
50 1.8
10-20
Flash gun
Monopod (strapped to site)
Waterproof covers
Notepad, lens pens, etc

Lens hoods for the 500 and 200 have to strap to outside. Could have also fitted a tripod to the side as well as the mono and hoods.
 
Thanks for that. I would prefer to keep the hood with the lens, reversed (I think that is what Andy said he did with his on the Skomer trip). I did wonder about the plane thing- the 400AW is claimed to be cabin sized on the lowepro website. I would only really take this kind of kit on a plane long haul but I usually fly BA etc on those anyway.

Any other makes etc anyone can recommend?
 
FStop Gear with the Monster ICU should hold all of that!
