Bag for 2 DSLR's

I've been trawling around looking for a new bag, but don't seem to be able to find what I need.

Are the TP collective able to suggest a solution.

I'm wanting if possible a bag that will carry my two DSLR's with lenses attached ready for easy access.

So one body could have a 70-300mm and the other a 24-70mm.

Then I'd like a bit more space to carry a wide angle, 17-40.

What I don't want is a travel bag where everything is hidden away in a suitcase
type holdall.

Any suggestions on what might be available; as at the moment my Billingham 225 is just too small.

It doesn't have to be a Billingham, but needs to be fairly robust.

Thinktank Retrospective 30?

Can fit in mine my D300 with 70-200 attached, D700 with 16-35 attached, 85mm f/1.4, SB900, sigma 1.4 TC, Fuji X100 in its own bag in one of the pockets, battery grip, 10 filter pouch, rocket blower, bottle of water, ipad, choclolate, and more, plus there was till loads of room!
 
Tamrac ultra pro 12. Mine takes all my kit when required. Two gripped bodies, 4 lenses and flash, and still some room left.
 
Good question, been thinking the same myself.

Pete.rush, I think we'd prefer specific thoughts based on experience. I know I've trawled through the companies already :) Good list of sites tho!

The fact that OP wants an easy access bag, I assume that its probably not a backpack, more a shoulder bag (crumpler) or sling bag (lowepro)

I've had a Tamrac Ultra Pro 13 and it is a very well made bag and highly recommended, however I ran out of room in it so I ended up getting a Tamrac Super Pro 14 which is big enough to get 2 gripped dslr's with lenses attached (usually a Canon 70-200 f2.8 IS L MkII and a Sigma 24-70 f2.8 USM), half a dozen other lenses including a Sigma 150-500 OS and a couple of flashguns as well.

I've also got a Tamrac Expedition 9x rucksack that will get everything apart from either the 70-200 or the 150-500. It does get rather heavy when its full, but it is comfortable to carry when its adjusted to fit. The Super Pro 14 has a piggyback feature so you can put it on a trolley to carry.

Thank you for your responses, I appreciate your thoughts.
I've had a bit more of a think and a play with my existing Billingham.
I've managed to fit two bodies into my existing bag upended and this seems to work.
What I'm looking at now is probably a backpack that I can take the cameras away with me and use it whilst away with lenses attached.
So, following Stuarts advice I'm looking at the Tamrac Expedition 9x and comparing it with the LowePro Vertex 300.
Do the collective have opinions on either.

Does the backpack require to be airplane suitable?

I use 2 backpacks, 1st is my main backpack, the lowepro AWII phototrekker, probable the best bag I've owned, to say I don't take it anywhere is an understatement, from days walking around race circuits, trips to the city, to climb a mountain or 2 in the lake district, this bag has been there. Very comfortable, loads of space, i.e. 2 bodies, 300mm f2.8, 70-200mm f2.8, 300mm f4, 24-105mm f4 plus batteries, grips, TC etc and it comes with a daysac that attaches to the outside for other bits and bobs, the only downside is that its just slightly too much depth to get away with using it as a carry on and abit heavy when you're restricted with weight, therefore for my 2nd backpack I use the Thinktank Airport Accelerator V2 as my travel bag. Ok not as much room, but still accommodates 2 bodies and lots of lenses, also has a laptop pouch, but that does take it over the 25mm depth that is max for most airlines, but what makes it, is that its lite-weight.

Thanks for the advice. Yes I'd like it to be airline suitable.
I fell the Phototrekker is perhaps too much more thanI was prepared to spend, and actually probably too big.
Perhaps I should be looking seriously at the Thinktank.

The big Domke bags (f833 and similar) are pretty cavernous and also well designed/made.

Not cheap though!
 
Have a look at the lowepro 400 aw... Backpack with access on the bit on your back. Small memory card type pockets. Movable insides with velcro. Front external zipped area (pocekts and bits in there) and (I found recently) a waterproof wrap hidden at the bottom.

Currently fits (for me) pretty much the whole listing on the sig (m42 lenses - only the 300). Plus still has space for portable HD (currently requiring fixing but Archos aint much use) wires, plugs phone...

Worth a play in a shop if you can get your hands on it, might be too big, but they do smaller versions I think.


Advantage is that you slide the bag around your waist (attached) and open. Works quite well. Build quality is fairly high.
