Hi all,can anyone recommend a bag which can go as hand luggage, which will take a 7D with 70-200mmL lens attached, and room for three more lenses and some bits and pieces,i have looked at the think tank bags, very nice but pricey,my budget is no more than £75-£100 tops,
regards,
john.

wrap them in tshirts and throw them in a normal rucksack, it's only going as hand luggage so not really an issue, and it not looking like a big camera bag will stop it getting stole'd.

or just your normal bag, in a normal rucksack if you wanted :/

i was looking for similar and opted for the lowepro flipside 400w. half price at warehouse express at mo, £65

Tamrac Expedition 5x
Kata 3N1-20 or 33

I have all three and they are very useful depending of how much kit you want to take with you.

My 5x normally holds my 700D with either 24-70 or 70-200 (both 2.8) attached. 105mm Micro and 12-14mm 2.8 and 2X TC.

I look this bag to some of this kit including a 13" laptop to Florida last year as handluggage on Virgin Atlantic flight with no issues.

3N1-33 will carry a similar amount but from what you are looking to carry I would go for the Kata 3N1-20 or 22 (new model with included laptop pouch).

EDIT: Both the 3N1 bags have a straps called "InserTrolley" that allows the bags to be placed ontop of suitacases with telescopic handles allowing you to effectivley pull boh bags at the airport which is very handy.

John.

I have the flipside 400AW which carries a lot and would be suitable.
I also have the lowepro 350 fastpack which I thought would be suitable for both air travel AND walk-about, but I think it's just too big for walkabout so I'll probably bring my tamrac velocity in addition.

I might end up getting a thinktank airport with wheels, I like the idea of wheels for airport and thin shoulder straps for emergency use only (i.e. climbing stairs etc). The reviews are excellent, but you pay for it!

Thanks for the recommendations,i did say my budget was no more than £100,but i have seen a think tank urban disguise 50 £123,is anyone one using one of these ?
regards john.

I recentley got a think tank glass taxi for £95.00 and am very pleased with it - should be big enough for your needs too.

Can recomend the lowepro flipside 400, just got mine tonight and it is great, get them on the bay for your budget too

Just remember that if you fly with Ryanair the dimensions of the cabin luggage is considerably smaller than that of the other airlines

I'm also interested in this thread. I don't wish to hijack it but I could do with a decent backpack that can hold my 50D, say 3 lenses (longest being a 200mm zoom) and also my underwater camera gear which is a G9, housing (about the same size as an SLR), dome port and strobe. Ideally I would want something that could hold all this when I travel but which would also be ok for when I don't have all my underwater gear with me.

I'm thinking Lowepro, Crumpler or Kata and would like to buy online due to price and time constraints.

Look at Crumpler Muffin Top Full Photo Backpack...takes my D300S with Sigma 120-300 f/2.8 attached, with room at the sides for two mug-sized lenses plus one a bit longer. Laptop/bits and pieces in a separate compartment. RRP near £150 but World of Bags £77!

Really curious what you think of the think tank Urban, considering one for later in the year.

I recently purchased a Peli case with wheels, I find its fantastic & if you get an airline like Rynair you can add 2 locks & send it baggage. We send all sorts of instruments via Peli-cases to some very hostile environments in the military and they survive hence why I bought one

Like others have said be aware that different air lines allow different size bags. Ryan air is prob the worst and I fly with them often, they also check the bag sizes often. I have a fastpack 250 which just about fits ryan airs limits.

Now if you fly with airlingus you could take a whole suitcase on board so think about who you will be flying with before choosing a bag.

do you have any pictures of yours in action?

i was initially looking at the prettyboy backpack xl, where the camera gear is in the bottom and then the top half is for general use with space for laptop
