So I went nuts and have bought a nice nearly new Canon 300mm f4 L prime to go with my 5D.
I have one of these bags:

The Nova is now too small.
The trekker is still good for when I want to carry everything- and don't mind having it on my back. But I could do with a replacement for the Nova- which is my 'walking around' bag. I'd like to be able to carry the 5D with the 300 f4 and a 1.4 teleconverter attached, in a bag that I can quickly take it in and out of -like the Nova. I think body converter and lens will be 350mm long.
It would also need to fit at least one other lens either 105 macro or the 17-40, along with spare batteries and a couple of filters and what not.

The bag needs to be waterproof- either inherently or using the Lowepro AW cover type system- and green/drab/dull coloured to avoid spooking the er 'wildlife' whilst I'm er 'stalking'.

Any cunning suggestions please folks?
 
You could try a holster type bag, from memory, the 300 isn't that much different in size to the 70-200. Lowepro make the top loader zoom and you can attach a lens case on the side to take a second lens.

Think tank also make similar bags but they have a size comparison next to them, also, i think you can add a lens case onto those too. Here is a link to the think tank version pictured next to a 70-200 with the hood in place, might even be able to fit a small prime underneath with the 300 because the hood takes up little space when reversed.

Have a look at the lowepro flipside 400 or if you want smaller the 300. I know the flipside fits a 300 f4 and 1.4 TC attached to a DSLR. I'm guessing the cannon versions are not much difference in size to the nikons.

A thinktank digital holster could be what you are looking for, it may need a waist belt to take the weight.

If you are looking for fast deployment then have a look at a sling strap. It's takes the weight nicely when walking and then you only lift it from from waist with no need to get it out of a bag.

Edit: just looked at your links and the flipside would be about the same size as what you have now. I would suggest either a sling strap or a holster type waist bag.

Hi, when I am not using my pelican style case I use a bag my Domke F-833 large photo courier bag which is great, it comes in various colours for about £140 to £150. I can fit both my 7Ds in it upright and ready to shoot, one with the 300 f4 L IS and one with the. 70-200 2.8 L. Very comfortable and waterproof, looks great I think also.

 
I've one of the Lowepro nova bags (must be a larger version than yours) and I can fit my 300 and body in it, with a little room to one side for a couple of other bits...

The Pro Runner backpack (the replacement for the Mini trekker) is certainly worth a look at if you fancy a backpack...

Yeah my Nova's one of the dinkier ones- though still a bit of a tardis.
Can you fit your 300 in without removing it from the body?

Yes, removing the inserts and I can fit the body and lens in attached.

I also have an insert approx 1/3 of the way down the front (or back) and have this attached to one of the sides next to front of the lens - this allows me to put a few bits in safely and also provides the lens with a bit of a padding / stop so it doesn't move around...Hope this makes sense
