Bag for my 300mm?

I've got the Nikon 300mm 2.8 and have tried all sorts of bags. I've finally settled with the lowepro vertex 200. The D3 and 300mm fit perfectly. Also got lots of pockets for bits and bobs. I can fit other lenses alongside also.
I also have the vertex 300 as my main bag for the rest of my gear and can say that they are a superb all weather bag. Excellent quality.

I have a Sigma 120-300 F2.8,I use it with a 1.4 TC and D300,the whole combo fits nicely into a Tamrac expedition 7 with plenty of room for other lenses and another body.
I assume the lenses will be of a similar size,if not, then ignore me.......

the lowepro trekker 600 aw II works nicely, i can fit 400 f/2.8 MKIII and TC with hood on

I tried one of those. I had it for the best part of 1hr.
Its bloody huge! My poor 300mm looked lost in it. The whole experience cost me about £50.00
But someone on here got a nice deal and gave it a good home.

Cheers for the recommendations. Wouldn't mind the one to take the 400mm as it'd give me a reason to get one 
Only thing is it doesn't look like it would be easy to handhold with a 1D Mk III/other body attached. The 300 isn't a feather, but it's a weight you can manage.

,......... might be brave and try the climb with the 400mm 2.8 VR
Lowerpro photo trekker is a very good bag, and will do the job very well and keep all your gear well protected and dry.
Tamrac 7 and 8X will do the job as well.
Cheers. This is a bit off topic, but what do Nikon use on their big primes as a hood/lens cover? Canon has this daft leather cap that I can't figure out what use it is. I've read on POTN that 'Don Zeck' do lens caps for these big primes, anyone ever used one?

The Kata HB-205 is ideal for the lens you have/will be getting. Also Lens Coat do lens hoodies as an alternative to the leather cap. They cost a little over a tenner and with the protection of the Kata bag, more than adequate!

I've the vertex 300 here too, again using the nikon 300 2.8, I bought it as it's supposedly still small enough to take on a plane as hand luggage wheras a lot of the other makes are too large, great bag as Kev says
