Bag(s) for 2 SLRS + lenses and accessories

The other half has decided she wants an SLR for her birthday so I need a way to move 2 SLRs (Nikon D50s) a few spare lenses (nothing huge as of yet but I might one day want something larger like a 80-200/bigma) and a flash (or two).

What are my options? Not sure if we should go backpack or shoulder but given the possible weights a backpack is probably wise. While I do prefer carrying a back pack, getting into it quickly is a pain though I suspect this is more down to the design of the bag.

Or is a better option to stay with my Red Snapper Verso for now to carry the lenses/accessories when out as we'd be using the cameras, and then get a pair or smaller cases/bags just to fit 1 camera and kit lens? Or possibly a second small back pack along the lines of a Tamrac Expedition 3.

One last thing I need to consider is the other half has a bit of a dodgy back so a massive bag would mean I'd have to carry it all day so would need to be comfortable.

Usage would be day trips out with the kids (1 & 4) to places like the zoo, beach, walks etc. Closer to home I just chuck the tele in the bottom of the buggy.

I'd certainly go with a backpack Chris if you've got the kids in tow, a bit more practical when you may need both hands in a hurry without a bag slipping off your shoulder.

I usually carry a Lowepro Primus around [similar functionally to your Verso] with a D2x fitted with a 80-200, a 17-70 and a 10-20 or flash. I can put another body/flashes in the top compartment if I wish.

However, I've also recently bought a Lowepro Pro Runner 350 for when I want to bring the kitchen sink out, which will readily fit my D1x and 135-400 too. It's very comfy, if obviously heavy when fully laden.

For you though, I think I'd go with your second bag idea since you both want to have a camera to hand each I'd have thought. I guess you therefore need to decide whether you add a small "one body, one lens" bag and make the Verso the main bag, or add something larger akin to the Pro Runner to future proof your kit carrying capability. Decisions, decisions...

Will have a word with the other half then. While I'd prefer to go bigger (maybe not 350 big) but if she can't carry the verso for a day then there's not really much point.
