Bags: Backpack v. Shoulder bag

hi everyone

I need to get a new bag to start carrying more/new kit around... mainly a second body.

I've currently got a Crumpler Muffin Top 7500 over-the-shoulder bag and a Lowepro Fastpack 200.

The Lowepro doesn't really fit a gripped D700+lens very well, but the backpack section at the top is great to throw bits and pieces into.

The Crumpler is great, but is only really good for taking out&about a gripped D700+lens and a prime.

So I'd like something which can hold a gripped D700+lens, D90, couple of lenses + accessories. One of the lenses will be a 70-200 f2.8.

My main dilemma is whether to get a shoulder or backpack? I think a backpack would be better for comfort... a shoulder would be better for quick access/mobility.

I'm also thinking about getting a Black Rapid double strap, so I can be on a job and have quick access to both a wideangle and telephoto... not sure if that would have an impact on my decision...
 
With all that weight it has to be a backpack. An over the should big enough for that lot will ruin your back!

this is true!

my only devil's advocate thought, was although all that kit will be put in the bag during transport, when I've arrived at a job, I'll always have one body in my hands, so the bag will be emptied a bit...

I used to have one of those big redsnapper bags, over the shoulder. It carried everything I owned kit wise (excluding the 150-500 its a bit of a beast) and it was way to heavy and also cumbersome to shoot with. You have to leave it somewhere and just carry the kit! I now have a lowepro slingshot 302 and that is more comfortable and again fits in all of my kit but the 150-500 but is easily carried and stays out of the way when shooting. Mind you the other day I just stuck it in the car and took out the macro lens only. It was quite liberating!

i think a backpack is the way to go then... probably a double strap one, just for the sake of my back so that weight is distrbuted evenly :)
 
Just thinking about this, with these requirements you will probably be best going to a real life shop and looking at the bags. You will get recommendations here for what to look at but with that amount of kit you should probably try it out to make sure its comfortable! ;)
