I would have been tempted to shoot #1 from further to the left so that you had the lit side of the bale in the shot as in #2, and not the shadow side.
#2 could have been improved by adding a polarizer to the lens and getting closer to the bales.

I thought it would have come out lighter but i did take shots from the other side but for some reason i deleted them :bonk:
That's something i need to buy urgently as i can't keep trying to rely on saturation.
