Ball head recomendation

I just bought a Manfrotto 464RC from WEX but , unless I'm doing something stupid, it is too small for the top of the tripod (Giottot8383) which has a 50mm ish plate on top and therefore can't be locked down.

Can any one recommend a sub £100 ball head for D7100 +Sigma 10-20 3.5 or Tamron 24-70 2.8 VC which comes in at around 2.5kg. Also a light weight head would be good with pan control.
 
Have you considered a Sunwayfoto. I got a good deal on an ex demo, which I couldn't tell from new from the UK eBay seller. Not at home at present so can't confirm model no but we'll made and holds a Canon 40D with a 400 securely
 
I'm not understanding your problem... and I can't find an example of a 464RC anywhere.
But I suspect you might be doing something wrong. The only thing that will prevent a head from mounting is if the tripod uses a 3/8 screw and the head uses a 1/4 thread. If you mean that the little set screws in the tripod plate wont engage the head, I wouldn't worry about that. I don't secure them as I frequently swap heads. If it really concerns you then you could use some *blue* loctite on the threads.
 
I know what you mean, reckon you have a 494, the 496 would match the diameter of your tripod base plate much better

@sk66 you are right about my need to engage the grub screws, I find I forget and unscrew the head without the grubs being used.

I would also like a panning option like by SBH-100 but lighter
 
Three that I would recommend around the £100 mark. They all use Arca-Swiss type quick release.

At first glance I thought the Redsnapper looked like a good by but what do they make it out of depleted uranium??

Was hoping for something a little lighter. The Sunwayfoto looks good and a better weight
