Ball head

Can anyone recommend me a ball head? There's such a huge choice available and I end up getting more confused then when I started looking, hopefully someone here can recommend , for use on tripod and monopod (more so monopod) Will be used with D700, 24-70/70-200.

Not looking to spend a ton of money but something decent that'll do the job

I got a Manfrotto 486 RC2 and I've been very happy with it.

With the stuff you want to put on the head, keep an eye on the maximum weights the heads you look at are designed to take. The 486 RC2 takes my D300 and 70-300mm lens no problem and is rock solid.

Good weight capacity, and you can control the friction on the unlocked ball so it can be set to suit exactly what you're trying to shoot. Less friction for quick moving subjects, more friction for better accuracy

My other half has just broken his Giottos ball head... weird! I have the Manfrotto 488 RC4 & i love it. So easy to use without having to keep looking for the knobs.

I think they have been upgraded now as a few shops don't have them but Amazon do them for about £70, just thinking about ordering another one

i have just recieved my redsnapper ball head and 1st impressions are for the price its solidly build and looks like its built to do the job

Thanks for the replies, will check out all mentioned above and try to make a decision

Never thought about RedSnapper, was going to stick with Manfrotto just because the monopod and tripod I have i've been happy with the quality. Will check them and Giottos out
