Aye your right Martyn, i was watching a B1 on ebay and reading about them thats why it stuck--still a great head by all accounts if you can find one for sale.

Arca Swiss Z1 as mentioned, which is probably better than any of the others, but thats down to opinions
Arca Swiss, RRS, Markins LINK or Kirk.
Robert White are your best bet for the Arca Swiss stuff, give them a call, really helpful.
WEX do the Kirk stuff.

I found the Novoflex Magicball really good quality and very flexible. It's like an upside down ball head. Available in three sizes from Speedgraphic.

I also noticed Acratech who have a nice product in their ultimate ballhead which has good reviews

I have an Acratech, I also have an Arca Swiss, the Acratech is lightweight, however it is not as secure as the Arca Swiss when you lock it, it will creep slightly from the initial locked position, the Arca Swiss does not move.

I have a RRS BH55. Fantastic head, very well built and quite chunky - whihc some may not like - but the over size controls make it so easy and quick to use, especially with gloves on in this cold weather! I'd buy it again if I had too.

With a 105VR Macro, for the heavy lens the Wimberley Sidekick is used (in the Arca Swiss).

They are a nice bit of kit, and if the OP is happy with ordering from the USA he would not be disappointed with it.
If they were available in the UK it would be a tough choice between the RRS and the Arca Swiss Z1.

That is a good point about them only being in the US, I picked mine up whilst I was out there. My friend has the old B1 and I don't find it very easy to use at all compared to the BH55 - it is a better and more manageable shape though.

I have an Acartech GV2 - it's superb and when set up properly I've noticed no creep at all - which I hate!!
In fact I'm on on my second one after the first was stolen. I could have gone for an alternative but for me the GV2 was the kiddie.

Good review here, in German but Babelfish makes it entertaining http://uk.babelfish.yahoo.com/trans...ead/ballheads.php&lp=de_en&btnTrUrl=Translate RRS, Markins, Arca come top, with some nice surprises from Chinese copies (I'm very pleased with my Benro J-2). Also one or two shocks from big names.
