hey hey

Has anyone got a spare pair of balls they can lend me, metaphorically speaking of course!

I wanna get into wedding and portrait/band photography. I know how to use my camera and am familiar with all the knobs and buttons! What I am having trouble with is my confidence to get out there and do it.

I will need to pay out for a good wedding/portrait course and spend a few grand on the appropriate kit which will have to be financed but it seems I have been putting it off for ages. The business side scares me too. Should ijust grow a pair and take the plunge or just continue dreaming about it!

Any advice?

Grow a pair and have a go.

Go for it.
I would love to have a hobby that was my job but at the moment for numerous reasons (not least of which is that I'm not good enough) I will plod on with the daily grind and hope for a lottery win. But I admire anyone who has the courage of their convictions and has a go.

Good luck.

Andy

Don't get me wrong I know what kit I need and how my camera works I was asking advice about taking the plunge and doing it. Guess I just need my ass kicked. Although I do need specific training.

try asking around and having a go at being an assistant/second tog so you get a feel for it first, ask friends and family if they know of any weddings happening soon and just suck it and see!

Go for it mate. Do yourself a favour and get plenty practice though, portraits inside and outside, maybe shoot a free model shoot for some friends and family? Me and Darren finished a wedding recently, not an experience I can say I even remotely enjoyed.

You need to ask yourself...

1) Why do you want to do it?

2) Is there a market for the service you plan to offer in the area you plan to offer it?

3) If there is a market, how well served is it already by other photographers?

4) What would your USP (Unique Selling Proposition) be? In other words what would differentiate the service you plan to offer from the rest?

5) If you decide to go ahead, how quickly will you be able to show a profit, allowing for start-up costs etc?
