Band photography

Hello eveyone

ive been offered some work doing some band photography some promo shots and live shots. Im looking to expand my kit for this really ive got around 450 to spend my current kit is

eos 40d
kit lens
battery grip
bout 20gb of cards

what would people suggest i get next i was thinking a flash but as ive never done gig photgraphy im not to sure any help would be great please

Fast glass is the answer. I have shot a few gigs and hardly use flash at all.

forget flash

get a nifty 50 .. there anything between 60-80 quid its a prime 50mm f1.8 for those realy dark places..

with your budgest I would probably go for either a third party short zoom but that may be poor in dark rooms.. or a short canon prime..must be minimumm f2.8

for that budget, a 50mm 1.8 and a tamron/sigma 17/18-50 2.8, and some money towards saving for a 430ex for the rare times that you can use a touch of fill flash / do interviews or whatever

Another vote for a fast lens and no flash.. here's what I managed with a 24-70 f/2.8 L on my 5D mk II:
