Bargains Thread

Ilford have free shipping on orders of over £15 at present. They also have a 3-film 120 bundle deal comprising 1 x HP5+, 1 x FP4+, and 1 x Pan F 50 for £11.50.

So, if you like all three films, and buy two bundles, you’ll be paying less than £4 a roll.

eBay have their monthly voucher deal running at present giving 20% of purchases over £15 (max discount £75). It runs until 28 Feb.

You can only use the code with certain sellers, but the following store sells film as well as some analog cameras / lenses. Not sure how competitive the camera prices are - even with the discount - but you can save a little on the film (I just bought 5 rolls of HP5+ for £20.75 - free postage included).

They have several film items, including Bronica, Rollei and Hasselblad, so worth a look. The real bargain looks like HP5+ in 5x4 @ £31.59 for 25 sheets, although that'll still be more expensive than Fomapan. Currently 7 available, so I'll let you guys in first as I'm still shooting 10 year old stuff.

This is the opposite of what this thread is for but I was browsing the lenses on a certain auction site today and spotted this lens advertised as a 35mm f2.0 for Nikon F at £279.99. It's the Yongnuo version, nowhere does he mention they cost less than £100 new. I think mine was £85 off Amazon. He also has several other Yongnuo lenses at inflated prices.

Carmarthen Cameras have Kodak Colorplus in stock at a decent price (given current prices elsewhere). Got an email alert from them.

5 x 36exp rolls for £22.99

H'mm over £4 a roll now o_O ..not so long ago colorplus and Fuji c200 was the film paupers used, all the good stuff like Fugi Reala and Superia 200 4th layer have gone. But still you can get good results from Colorplus and C200 so not to put anyone off, but shame if they could keep the prices of film down it would encourage more newbies.
I once read when film was mass produced in the past that the box cost more than the film......anyone read that or is my memory loosing a few memory grey cells.

When I used it a couple of years ago there was loads of listings for colour plus and c200 for bricks of 10 for £25. Its a shame its so expensive now, I like to keep in a cheap point and shoot to carry around with, getting to the point where its not worth the cost

Well if anyone want to shoot film they would just have to make every shot count i.e. no machine gunning ;) But interesting is why film is increasing in price..is it the exchange rate OR middle man cashing in OR basic materials costing more (I calculated the increase in silver prices would only add about 16p to the cost of a roll of film) OR Kodak and Fuji are not prepared to restart mass production (like the old days) etc etc

It was 'poundland film' for a long time!

It's rumoured that Fuji stopped production of many emulsions years ago and just have diminishing stocks in cold storage. In any case, film has gone from a mass market item to a specialised product in the last 20 years, and there are no longer the same economies of scale.

I bought quite a bit of ColorPlus in poundland - this was about 10 years ago now though.
Ahh, I'd only known the Agfa stuff, but wasn't all that keen on it but found it useful for testing newly bought cameras.

Prices? Looking on the net a possible reason from Kodak (early 2020) is:- A large ongoing financial investment has been made to increase production capacity but unfortunately the benefits of this investment will not be realized until much later in 2020, with some additional benefits being delivered in 2021. So ATM supply and demand which increases the price.

So Kodak and Fuji how to forsee the future in the world for using more film to start any form of mass production h'mm is using film a tempory craze? One for the board of directors to guess.

Tesco still had minilabs at the time and I'm sure it was something daft like 99p for a dev only too..

I'm hoping Kodak prices settle a bit soon, but not holding my breath!

..and some Morrisons' would develop colour film for £1, mind you when I tried them the negs were covered in dust spots and had to re wash them.

Not sure I'd buy from someone selling ColorPlus with a description implying it's Gold 100/200!

Probably just an error when they were adding the descriptions.

I’ve bought from them before on several occasions without problems Chris, including five rolls of the Colorplus which arrived a couple of days ago.(y)
