Yes
A quick query...Probably really basic stuff...
When you're attending a circuit as a 'signed-on' photographer, is there any etiqutte to be followed? Eg - when going trackside of a fence do you clear it with the marshalls first? Is it acceptable to cross the track between races if the marshalls are out on track sweeping up (ie - no track action)? I assume you don't crowd-out other togs at prime locations etc????
Just wondering...
Cheers

gotta move this to a different section, but i'll answer it first

etiquette - just dont do anything silly, and try to be as safe as possible
no need to clear anything with the marshals
the only time you need to talk to marshals is when you take the mick out of them (and vice versa). If youre no good at taking the mick out of marshals then dont sign on :)
you can cross the track whenever it isnt live. ask a marshal if not sure (then you can blame them when you get splatted by a car)
be polite to other photographers. some wouldnt say boo to a goose, and some are really nice and chatty. some are just weird.
try not to hog fence cut-outs, but other spots you dont need to worry.

hope that helps.

They way I go about it is making sure I am not in anyones way (be it track or speccy side of the fence) then I make sure I have plenty of room to run and also check the marks on the grass to see which general direction the cars go in. Then when the cars are out I generally keep snapping a crash till I cant zoom out any more and the subject fills the frame. Then it is time to go!

As for crossing, I ask the nearest marshal if it is safe to cross before doing so or follow the crowd :)

Thanks for the answers - it's more or less as I thought.
I've spectated at many race circuits (and also driven at a fair few), so I'm aware of what to look for regarding safety etc.
I'm not signing-on for any meetings in the very near future, but it may be an option later this year.
