Basic Teleconverter Questions

Toying with the idea of one of these to use with my Nikon 70-200 2.8.

- My lens would basically become f4 with a 1.4, and f5.6 with a 2.0 correct? Assume AF would be fine even at f8?
- Any difference between the Kenko and Nikon ones? Are Nikon worth almost twice the price? Any other makes worth considering?
- What impact on IQ is there?
- Whats the difference between PRO 300 DGX, MC7 DG, MC7 DGX and MC4 DGX - all Kenko.

Shooting wise, kids doing kids stuff (beach, park) odd aircraft shots, odd wildlife... Nothing serious but occasionally feel that 200mm is not enough.

The IQ drops I believe when you go from 1.4 to 2x. I dont know how much with the nikon kit.

The DGX ones i believe are the newer ones that trasmit the proper data to the camera - ie - your exif would dispay 140-400 f5.6 - I thing

You will probably be okay with a Kenko Pro 300 1.4x - it has a good rep. Yes, aperture will move from f/2.8 to f/4.

Pushing to 2x most people find is too far, though you would retain AF at f/5.6.
