Batteries and battery grip for 70D

Now iv got my new camera im looking for some spare batteries, and also possibly a battery grip, the camera is a 70d.

Would you stick to official batteries or are there other brands which are just as good? Also the same question regarding a battery grip, stick with a official canon one, or will a cheaper one do the job?
 
I've never had an issue with 3rd party batteries... my impression is they don't last quite as long (the specs tend to be over stated).
I have had a 3rd party grip go bad and cause weird behavior (electrical shorts). TBF, I was carrying the camera from a strap (BR) attached to the grip.
 
ex pro white batteries are just as good or better than oem, at 15quid or so each
 
Another vote for 3rd party grips and batteries. Never had an issue at all. Just remember to get decoded ones or the battery metre doesn't show, that apart , great imo.
 
Really depends on difference in cost - I've had good quality 3rd party batteries on my previous bodies and had no issues at all...

Just have a spare genuine battery for my current body as I got it for a good price.

Not sure with the 70D, but I have read of issues with the camera not reading / seeing the aftermarket battery, sometimes following a firmware upgrade...hopefully bods with a 70D would be able to answer this.

Could be worth editing your title to add "for 70D" ?
 
I have an Energiser battery and personally can't tell any difference to the Nikon ones.
 
3rd party grip gets my vote but pick your batteries with care try to stay clear of the cheaper Chinese brand and stay with the above or Duracell.
 
I have a 70D & opted for a Hahnel "Extreme" HLX-E6 and have been delighted with performance. It lasted me well into a day's motor racing when I was at Silverstone last month. Registers within the camera OK; showing charge remaining, shots taken, etc. Hope this helps.
 
any decent places for 3rd party batts? there seem to be alot but not sure which to trust
 
The Hahnel Extreme is pretty good and can be found for a decent price, also for an indecent price some places, they should sell for about £30.00. A couple of things I've noticed, as it runs down the charge reading changes after switching off and on. e.g it says 46% at shut down the 60% when you switch on, they also don't give very good warning that they are about to run out, they last a long time, as long as genuine Canon I think, but by the time the battery info is saying 20% or so they can just pack in anytime. The Canon charger recognises them happily enough as does the camera but there are some minor issues with Canon reading them. I used to use Duracells on other cameras but they don't guarantee them for recent production models, there's a note on their website, I think it's post 2012.
