Should they go flat after a few days if left in the grip?

Need to do some controlled testing, just found that on a couple of occasions when I thought I had plenty of charge I had not, can`t remember exactly how long they had been in there, but it was no more than a few days, maybe a week.

Would be interested in other peoples thoughts/impressions.

I've left 1/2 charged batteries in my gripped 5d for weeks on end and the level of charge has hardly altered.
 
I have found that some of my non-OE batteries in my non-OE grip on my 5D will quietly drain themselves when the camera is switched off. As I've had different batteries in this week and not suffered any power drain I suspect a dodgy battery. Not done any testing though to find the guilty party.

Otherwise my 1D batteries don't discharge themselves and it shouldn't be an issue.

How much hammer have your batteries had and are they Canon brand?
 
Just checked mine and mine have been in a few days.

Both my batteries are still showing 100% in 3rd party grip with canon batteries.
 
No problem here, with genuine Canon batteries. I actually don't even bother to turn the camera off very often, but do use it regularly so not left it for very long.

What batteries are you using?
 
No problem here either using a Canon grip and Canon batteries - I can leave it for a while no problem, although I use it every week so the batteries don't have much chance to empty by themselves - never noticed any drops though...
 
If I leave any batteries in my non canon grip they're flat with a week.

Mine are Canon batteries in Canon grip, have 4, two are new and two are about 12 months old. No idea which are which though.

Will try a test.
 
I have have some discharge when left in the grip for a period of time, not to completely flat though.

I have also had some completely flatten but that coincided with a 16GB card full of shots of midnight in the coal-house (looked just like the back of the lens cap!). What a waste of several hundred shutter actuations....
 
5D2 with Canon grip, Canon batteries and 100% battery power. Nothing like you are describing.
Are you sure your grip + batteries are genuine?
