Does anyone else find that they don't last long?
Should I be taking the battery out if I don't use the camera for a couple of days?

If I use the camera, take a few shots (not like 100 or anything, just 10, 30 summit like that) then use it the next day or the day after, the battery is almost dead, the camera is on a go slow as the battery is dying.

Normal? Or am I doing summit wrong? (yeh, I know I'm not taking enough pics lol)
 
Is the battery new? That doesn't sound right at all. It's far from normal (even if you were using the flash). You should get a few hundred shots from a single charge.

As for leaving the battery in the camera, a couple of days is fine. If I know I'm not using it for a week, then I'll remove it.
 
do you use Live View a lot?

I've just checked my A350 and I've done 190 shots and the battery is at 50%, but I do play around with settings an awful lot in between as I am only just getting used to the camera.

I would recommend you get a spare battery at some point.:thumbs:
 
I have 2 batteries and they're both doing the same TBH (both sony ones too). I use the live view about 50%ish of the time. I don't use flash that often and I'm pretty slow at setting the camera for a shot. I also view the images sometimes.

If I put in a fully charged battery I can take 200+ without it faltering, it just seems that when I use it another day (a few days max) that it's gone slow and needing recharging.

Unless I'm just too impatient? LOL
 
using Live View and viewing shots will eat up batteries so 200+ is not too bad.
 
Hrm, I never even think about removing my batteries. I can take 400 shots one day- and then another 400 a week later (Canon 20D)
 
I never take the batteries out of my D300 when I'm not using it. I can take a few hundred shots and the battery will go down to maybe 50%. If I then leave the camera for a week or so with the battery still in it then it'll still be at 50%.

A camera battery should be able to hold it's charge for about 6 months whether it is fully charged or partially charged.
 
Sounds as though there is something wrong with the camera, you should be able to leave it in the camera without it discharging, unless you dont switch the camera off. I can leave my 30D for weeks without it getting low.

my 30Dhas been left for two or three weeks with a battery in it, no probs.
if your battereies are a year or two old, they could be on their way out.
try looking for batteries with a higher mAh rating than your original sony's.
dont worry about using aftermarket battereies either.
most of ours are now higher rated aftermarkets.

Even if you were to leave the camera turned on it should go in to standby mode and use only very minimal power from the battery which wouldn't drain it overnight.

I recently had a problem with my D300 which meant I couldn't turn it off. I left a battery in it for 2 weeks with it on standby when i wasn't using it and I still managed to get a few hundred shots out of it.

It sounds like the OP definately has a problem with the camera that needs looking at.
