Battery and memory card

Just bought first SLR. Should I really be removing card and battery each time I finish?

There is no need to remove either unless the camera is to be stored for a very long time, then remove the battery. However, do not rely on your card only to store your shots. Ensure you download them to your PC etc and back them up.

I thnik the only thing I would add to Bob's post is, if you do remove them - put them in your camera bag / with your camera...

There is nothing worse than picking everything up, out you go and start to shoot only to find the card is next to the PC at home or battery is sat near your charger !!!

You'll only do it once mind...

I experienced something similar, thankfully I had some AA Batts for my grip.

Keep it all in one place.

It's one of the reasons to have spare batteries & cards.
Whenever you swap an empty battery or full card out, put a fresh one in - so worst case is you are only missing the spares.

This is what I do. Swap them over straight away so that the camera is always ready to go.
I always keep my spare battery and a couple of memory cards in the camera bag as well so that I know where they are and don't forget them.
