Not sure if this is in the right section. Looking to upgrade my current battery charger to an intelligent one and would like some recommendations. Primarily to charge AA/AAA batteries.

I have switched to Nitecore D4's. Mainly because they charge 18650 cells as well and these are fast becoming the new AA (they're also inside most of the bigger batteries for power tools and such like) The D4 charges those, and AA's and AAA's and whole host of other close relatives of the 18650. They also make decent LED torches.

I got sort of curious about the 18650s when I bought the 7dayshop MultiSmart 3000, which also charges them (linked in the other thread, but currently out of stock). It does look like a good choice for a torch - you can apparently get 1000 lumens from a single 18650 in a very compact package. Possibly my next new toy.

Yes - you can :) I have a Klarus ST15 that outputs 1100 lumens from a CREE XP-LM2 led powered by one 18650 cell. http://www.ebay.co.uk/itm/111996152401?_trksid=p2057872.m2749.l2648&ssPageName=STRK:MEBIDX:IT

I use it mainly to light up plastic tubes.
