Battery cover on 40d

Has anyone ever experienced the battery cover on their camera not quite touching the battery so the charge disappears? The cover now just needs a gentle touch to get the connection back? :shrug:

Any ideas on what I can do, other than using a bit of tape over the cover to apply that little bit of pressure that now needs to be applied.

The battery cover doesn't need to touch the battery as long as the contacts on the battery touch the contacts on the cover. If you take your battery out, you'll see that the two long gold contacts need to touch the two two pairs of studs next to the spring inside the battery compartment.

It seems to me that it could be one of two things: either the white battery clip isn't holding it down properly (a worn spring on the clip, maybe?), or the spring at the bottom of the battery compartment has become compressed over time and needs to be stretched a bit. I would hope it isn't the latter as if you pull that spring too hard it might come loose.
 
Pretty sure there is a little microswitch in there too that is operated when closed, small piece of plastic on the door presses it down
 
The microswitch is recessed into the body next to the catch - it's probably that that's preventing the camera from powering up. You can test it by depressing it gently with a matchstick or similar.
 
From I can see, the large spring at the bottom is fine as are the long contacts. The white battery clip also looks to be fitting correctly and looks a tight fit. I'll try that matchstick test just to check.

Guess if it needs to be sent away, that's what I'll have to do but would really like to have it resolved by Friday, don't want to ruin a few days at Bempton Cliffs.

OK, I've still not be able to cure this problem of the battery not powering up all the time with a single battery fitted. I've even gone and purchased a new grip in the hope that the power issue would be resolved with the grip being fitted, however, that hasn't fixed the problem either and with no power now being given out with the grip attached :bang::bang:

What are the chances that the contact plates set down the bottom of battery area to the side of the spring being dirty or worse part damaged?

Anyone recommend a good and reliable repair shop

Are you sure its not the microswitch, the grip would also need to activate that for power to get through

If it needs repair reckon Canon at Elstree would be the best bet, before that why not try some electrical contact cleaner on the plates, could just be crud build up

Sure you have tried different batteries :)

Now totally died so off to the camera doctor when I get home. Damm typical, two days remaining at Bempton and no camera :bang: :'(

Been reading about DC boards having to be replaced with costs of about £153 - darn just when I thought I was going to have a few extra pennies in the wage package at the end of the month!

My older 40D had it done, might even have seen my post

Always the same if you think you are getting a few bob to spare, happens time and again

At least the camra will get a good clean and brush up, hope all goes smoothly
