Battery faff around

Folks,

Bought a 5D off ebay.

Came with a BP 511 type battery (but not original Canon)

Switched it on - nothing

Charged battery - nothing

Tried BP 508 out of old 20D - it works!!

Woohoo, but:

has anyone had problems with non - Canon batteries not working properly?
do I go out and buy a new 508 or a new 511?

7 day shop 511's are OK. Work better than originals when you first get them. 18 months later and the original will working better but given the price difference it's not worth worrying about.

I used a few non Canon ones on my 450D without any issues, they were great and at a fraction of the price.
