battery grip and Manfrotto MT293A3 Tripod + 804RC2 Head wont fit!!

Just purchased a Manfrotto MT293A3 Tripod + 804RC2 Head and if i want to mount my 50d with battery grip using the tripod collar on my 70-200 it wont fit!!! Can you get a height adaptor as i don't really want to either have to take the grip off or not use the collar?
Has any one else had an issue like this?

Not that important to use a collar with the 70-200 f/4, doesn't come supplied with one

can you put the RC2 head on sideways for extra clearance, or twist it round, attach head and twist back to normal?

I have this problem you are talking about with both my 70-200 and my 100-400. what i do it put it in the head backwards if that makes sense so the release leaver is poining away from you not towards you

The first pic is the only way it will fit but all the handles are at the front? o in other words its back to front!

The second wont fit in because the retaining clip is in the way of the grip! (just below my finger)

Its a fantastic pod by the way! A little weighty but solid as hell, was after the head as i have been for a while and i managed to get the head, pod and next day delivery for £40! and it is in mint condition. Thank you ebay.

Loosen the lens collar so it's the wrong way round on the lens (180 degrees or so, what ever works), mount on the tripod then swivel the body the right way round and tighten up the collar

Do you not find that hard to control?

It all depends on what I am shooting, if its still life or something I do not have to move arouns then no not really but if its something I am shooting that I have to move angles or something I will use my ball head

Surely this is a design fault? I haven't got a problem with mounting it with the base of the camera but it just feels more solid with the ring. It feels more balanced?

HAHA i just tried it without the battery grip and i felt like i couldn't hold the camera properly without it. Funny how you get used to things?
