Battery Grip

Looks like a badly moulded peice of cheap plastic to me.

I used an Opteka one with my 400D and had absolutely no complaints. I couldn't find any differences, either physically or functionally, between that and the OEM Canon one which would make sense as the Opteka one is supposedly made with old Canon molds. The Opteka one also came with two Opteka batteries which were both higher capacity than the original Canon battery. Almost half the price of the official one and it included two good quality batteries, what is there to argue about?

Some people, probably quite a lot actually prefer OEM.

I was looking for an aftermarket battery grip for an A5** for my friend as he doesn't use his camera that much in portrait but the thing i read on a few occasions is that several aftermarket grips drain both batteries at once though this may just be restricted to sony aftermarket grips.
That one does look yukky though.

I had a Hahnell on my 50D and it worked OK until it worked loose (which was frequently). I missed several pictures because the camera was no longer attached to the battery.

When I bought my 7D I bought the Canon grip. It has performed faultlessly

To be fair my Opteka has performed flawlessly and they batteries seem to lasting forever.

The only gripe I have is the Dial doesnt have the same feel as the one on the camera, it feels somewhat more recessed. I don't know what the OEM feels like, it would be maybe £50 too much for me to go OEM for that, and I typically only go OEM unless there is no option (like the radio wireless shutter release).
