There are often a number differences that you can use to identify fakes, but you'll need to physically have it to inspect it. However, the first thing that should set the alarm bells ringing is price. If somebody is offering genuine manufacturer grips for significantly below retail then treat with a lot of caution.

As for 3rd party grips, they are usually very good quality with little difference between them and the camera's manufacturers.
I agree. Better to buy a genuine fake one than a fake genuine one![]()
but the markings have started to fade on my 3rd aprty grip
Sorry to slightly hijack this thread, but while it's on the subject of third party battery grips, I was wondering if anyone could recommend one in particular.
The build quality seems to differ between them from pretty poor to not to bad, but it's very hard to tell how good the one's I see on ebay are.
Meike from LinkDelight are the ones to get!
Mine arrived from HK in around a week!![]()

and check the serial number with the manufacturer. They will let you know if its genuine
I've only ever used genuine canon grips on my bodies and none of them have ever had a visible serial number. That's on grips for the 300d, 20d, 5d and 5d2
Hi, quick question before I buy...I use a sling strap, is the tripod mount as secure as the one on the camera??
Thanks.
