Battery life on 4 hour exposure?

How can you do a 4 hour exposure? I just really want to try that now. Won't your sensor get very hot though?

If you take a single 4 hour exposure, your problem will be with in camera noise, not the battery
And if you turn on NR for long exposures you will have a REALLY long exposure since this takes a second shot which acts as the "noise profile" for the 4 hour exposure.
And this second shot is as long as the original shot!
So all in all EIGHT HOURS!

With long exposure like that, you typically take lots of shorter exposures and then do "dark" processing which removes the camera noise. That is, you'll take 20x3 minute exposures of what you want, (say) 5 x 3 minute exposures of the camera at the same temperature as the 20x3 mins, and then subtract the resulting image.
Astrophotography (which I used to be into) is the only area that this is used though. BTW, if astrophotography is what you're into, the precision of the tracking is FAR more important than battery life

This is probably one are where very fine grain film can be easier to work with. That and some nice f/1.2 glass like FD / EF L, Leica or Nikkor.
